On June 2, 2025, at the assembly plant in Purwakarta plant, Indonesia, a brand-new BJ40 PLUS slowly rolled off the production line. This milestone marked the official rollout of BAIC brand’s first locally assembled vehicle in the country and represents a significant step forward in BAIC’s expansion across the ASEAN region.

BAIC reached a cooperation agreement with local JIO Group in 2024 to jointly plan assembly production lines and advance the localized assembly of BAIC’s right-hand drive vehicle models. The factory spans 380,000 square meters with an annual production capacity of 100,000 vehicles.

Since the project’s launch, the BAIC team has overcome numerous challenges, from assembly line construction and equipment installation and commissioning to technical staff training. Through close collaboration among all teams over the course of a year, including the BAIC Southeast Asia market team and BAIC’s off-road vehicle technical support team who sacrificed personal time for the greater good with over 200 days of business travel, the first vehicle has finally rolled off the assembly line successfully.

The BJ40 PLUS that rolled off the line is BAIC’s most classic part-time four-wheel drive off-road vehicle. Its design features bold, muscular body lines that are deeply loved by off-road enthusiasts. In terms of configuration, it comes standard with front and rear electronic differential locks and an electronic transfer case, and is equipped with off-road anti-roll bars and a removable roof, further enhancing body rigidity and safety.

BAIC’s Phase One plan calls for an annual production capacity of 10,000 vehicles, with potential for further capacity increases as market demand grows and the right-hand drive BJ30 model is introduced. Additionally, BAIC plans to establish a comprehensive sales and after-sales service network locally to provide consumers with comprehensive vehicle purchase and ownership support. The rollout of this first assembled vehicle represents not only a major breakthrough for BAIC in the ASEAN market, but also injects new vitality into its global brand promotion and market expansion efforts.
